Happiest Little Baker Giveaway!

I am not a very crafty person.  Some moms have the most pinterest-worthy art projects up their sleeves, but when it comes to doing something creative with my kids, I've always preferred baking.  Which is why I was THRILLED to discover the Happiest Little Baker - a subscription based monthly kit that comes equipped with pre-measured, non-perishable ingredients and simple-to-follow, adorable recipes!  It was created by a woman named Linsdey and her husband Mike - parents who love baking with their own two children.  Their kid-friendly approach is obvious in every detail - they even include an activity sheet to kill time while your treat bakes.  After our 'Witch Hat Cupcakes' were done, my son proclaimed, "this is SO MUCH FUN, please sign up for every month!!"

So for the giveaway, HLB is going to give one winner a 3-month subscription for FREE!  To qualify to win, you must officially follow this blog, as well as follow HLB on Twitter, Instagram and like them on Facebook.  Please leave a comment below to enter the giveaway, letting us know what you like to bake with kids.  A winner will be chosen at random on Wednesday at 9am EST.  Good luck!

Acacia Wood Giveaway!

Are you the type of person that has all their holiday shopping done early?  Teach me.  Teach me the way to not stress every single day until the very end when I realize I'm WAY behind.  What did people even DO before online shopping?  Did they actually rub elbows with each other at... THE MALL?!  Oh, the horror.  I vaguely remember doing that when I was only responsible for buying, like, two presents.  Well, guess what?  Even though I've only begun to stress, I'm going to help you knock something off your list, right, NOW.

I recently received this GORGEOUS serving tray and bowl set from Pacific Merchants line of Acacia Wood products.  It's actually called a Baguette Tray with 3 Dipping Bowls, and you better believe I'm going to buy crusty bread and make three delicious dips to accompany it.  But for now, I've been bringing it out every night as an appetizer tray, and I couldn't love it's simplicity, functionality or beauty more.  And now, it's time for YOU to receive something!

Pacific Merchants is generously gifting one of you a Salad Bowl and Server Set!  If you win, you may choose any of their 10" or 12" bowls (they come in a variety of beautiful shapes).  This is a perfect gift for someone who loves to cook or entertain... orrrrr you could totally keep it for yourself.

Please visit this page, and comment below letting me know what you love.  And don't forget to "like" Pacific Merchants on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.  I will announce the winner Wednesday at 8am EST (only US residents eligible to win).  Good luck!  Happy Weekend!

Jello Cookies

My little boy had a temperature yesterday, and he overheard the doctor telling us that she lets her own kids "cook" when their fever is low enough.  When we got home, he started asking me what he could make in the kitchen.  It was right before dinner, so I told him it wasn't the best time, until he insisted that the doctor wanted him to COOK.  Um, adorable!  How do you say no to that?  So we jumped on Pinterest and searched for kid cookie ideas.  He picked these Jello Cookies, and I happened to have every ingredient on hand (because my kitchen is a goddamn bakery).  If you ever wonder if everything on Pinterest is as easy and adorable as it looks, the answer is NO.  I couldn't get this dough to come together.  Even after adding milk, it was a crumbly mess.  But I was able to make 5 cookies out of it and Jack was happy, therefore, I'll categorize this as a success (let's pretend that the dinner I was planning on making wasn't totally neglected and I didn't order pizza instead).

By the way, the lovely people at Alpha Grillers felt badly that they couldn't give ALL of you a Garlic Press & Peeler Set, so they're offering everyone 10% off should you want to buy one on Amazon!  Just use the code SIRIGP10, which is valid between now and December 24th.

Help a MN girl out and VOTE!

You know those weekends that center around food?  (Oh you mean every weekend, Siri?)  Boy did I just have one.  Two of my closest friends came to visit and if you are a close friend of mine, then you love food.  Pizza, pasta, bagels, burgers, tacos, pastries, carbs carbs carbs carbs... we ate it all.  So I'm going to shift focus from stuff you chew and talk about drinks.

Whether you're experiencing triple-digit heat or crisp fall temps, I don't think you can deny that the Peachy Pina Colada above looks perfect.  Chef Jamie Oliver's Drinks Tube is searching for a new Cocktail Star and the contest has been narrowed down to 5 finalists.  There is one, lone American in the running... who also happens to be from Minnesota!  Her name is Stephany, and she is one entertaining lady (check out her site, Making It with Stephany).  Please take a minute and click here to VOTE for her Peachy Pina Colada (my favorite part is when she compares the peach to a butt).  By voting, you are eligible to win an iPad mini (or as I like to call it, a 'Slightly Larger iPhone 6 Plus).

ALSO, the winners of the Alpha Grillers Garlic Press & Peeler sets are Julie Hicks, Becky C. and Shelley Snyman!  Please email me (contact info at top of page) with an address where you'd like your prize sent.  Thanks for participating in the giveaway all of you all!

Giveaway: Garlic Press & Peeler

Is there anything worse than your fingers smelling like garlic?  Listen, I LOVE the stuff and overuse it in almost every recipe, and the scent of it cooking on the stove is glorious... but on your fingers for sometimes days afterwards?  No.  However, I've never had great experiences with garlic presses, therefore I usually prefer to chop the stuff myself.  That was the case until recently, when the people at Alpha Grillers (a company that manufactures high-quality kitchen tools available at Amazon) sent me a press and peeler set to review.  First of all, I had never used a peeler before and this one was refreshingly easy.  Just stick the clove into the tube and firmly roll it around with the palm of your hand and voila!  The peel falls off.  No smelly fingers yet.  Now onto the press, which you can tell is high-quality by the feel of it in your hand.  I've encountered so many presses that sort of fall apart when you open them.  Not this one, and look at how much fresh, juicy garlic you're left with...

The only thing left inside the press is a very thin layer of peel.  I will never try another method again!

On to the the best news: Alpha Grillers is going to give away THREE sets to YOU fine people!  Just comment below to be eligible to win, and make sure to "like" AG on Facebook.  You want to win this giveaway, that is no joke, WIN WIN WIN!!  Good luck and thank you Alpha Grillers!

Nicole Adeline!  Nicole, I will contact you regarding your prize.

Takeya Iced Teas + Giveaway

When I'm pregnant, more than any other time, I drink iced tea like mad (I almost wrote "like a Mo-Fo" and then remembered this isn't 1997).  I am not a hot tea fan, but iced tea is so refreshing, and with summertime fast approaching now is the perfect time to keep a fresh pitcher in your fridge.  Which is why I am so excited that Takeya offered me an Iced Tea Maker, along with a line of iced tea flavors, to review and giveaway.  That's right, one of YOU will win what you see below, just by commenting on this post!  (Please insert my commercial-y ad voice there.)

(the mugs are mine, you can't have those)

Just look at all those flavors!  The whole thing is wonderfully simple to make, coming together in just minutes - a bonus when you're pregnant with two small humans to look after.  If you can pour, brew and shake, then you can create the perfect glass of iced tea.  Here's how you do it...

Pour pre-measured tea into infuser.  I tried out the fresh green tea here...

Boil water, let it cool for a few minutes, and then pour into iced tea maker, about halfway full...

After a few minutes of brewing, remove infuser and fill with ice.  Seal lid and shake for 30 seconds.  Here is mine post-flash chilled...

It's delicious, and did I mention the whole thing is dishwasher safe?!  Perfection.  There are about a million ways to flavor your tea and make it unique, and below are 4 wonderful recipes to help you do just that.  To win your own Iced Tea Maker + Iced Teas, simply comment below and tell me which flavor you're most excited to try!  (Must be an official follower of this blog to qualify, and a winner will be chosen at random this Friday, May 16th at 12p EST.)

TAKEYA ICED GREEN TEA: 4 Ways

Pear, Lemon & Ginger
*While every pear variety will infuse to reveal a delicate fruit flavor, we recommend Bosc for its crisp, sweet flavor or Bartlett for its extra juicy fruit.

1) PREP ~ Add sliced ginger to bottom of the pitcher and muddle with a wooden spoon.  Tear open the TAKEYA Fresh Green Iced Tea Packets, pour tea into Tea Infuser and twist into lid.
2) BREW ~ Heat water to a boil, cool for 4 minutes and fill the pitcher halfway.  Lower the lid with attached Tea Infuser into the hot water, allowing steam to vent, and brew for 3 minutes.  Remove the lid and detach the Tea Infuser.  Stir in honey until dissolved.
3) FLASH CHILL ~ Top off with ice, seal lid and shake for 30 seconds to flash chill.  Remove 1 3/4 cups of the iced tea to make room for the fruit infusion.
4) ADD CITRUS FLAVOR ~ Twist the Citrus Juicer into the top of the pitcher and juice the lemons. Twist off the Citrus Juicer, seal and shake to mix.
5) ADD FRUIT FLAVOR ~ Twist the Fruit Infuser into the Infuser Extender and add chopped pear.  Twist the Fruit Infuser into the lid, lower it into the iced tea and seal airtight.  Zip on the Thermo Jacket and infuse for 3 hours in the refrigerator.

Strawberry, Basil & Mint Lemonade
*Basil might seem like an unusual ingredient for lemonade, but this earthy herb refreshes the palate while balancing the sweet strawberries, vibrant mint and tart lemon.

1) PREP ~ Add chopped mint and basil to the bottom of the pitcher and muddle with a wooden spoon.  Tear open the TAKEYA Fresh Green Iced Tea Packets, pour tea into the Tea Infuser and twist into lid.
Remove 2 1/3 cups of the iced tea to make room for the fruit infusion.
4) ADD CITRUS FLAVOR ~ Twist the Citrus Juicer into the top of the pitcher and juice the lemons (rinse off Citrus Juicer halfway through juicing to remove pulp and seeds).  Twist off the Citrus Juicer, seal and shake to mix.
5) ADD FRUIT & HERB FLAVORS ~ Twist the Fruit Infuser into the Infuser Extender and add chopped strawberries.  Twist the Fruit Infuser into the lid, lower it into the iced tea and seal airtight.  Zip on the Thermo Jacket and infuse for 3 hours in the refrigerator.

Watermelon, Lime & Mint
*To get an even bigger watermelon kick from this drink, fill glasses with frozen watermelon cubes just before serving the Green Mint iced tea infusion.  Just slice watermelon into 1-inch cubes and freeze until solid.

1) PREP ~ Tear open the TAKEYA Green Mint Iced Tea Packets, pour tea into Tea Infuser and twist into lid.
2) BREW ~ Heat water to a boil, cool for 3 minutes and fill the pitcher halfway.
Remove 2 1/2 cups of the iced tea to make room for the fruit infusion.
4) ADD CITRUS FLAVOR ~ Twist the Citrus Juicer into the top of the pitcher and juice the lime.  Twist off the Citrus Juicer, seal and shake to mix.
5) ADD FRUIT & HERB FLAVORS ~ Twist the Fruit Infuser into the Infuser Extender and add chopped watermelon and mint.  Twist the Fruit Infuser into the lid, lower it into the iced tea and seal airtight.  Zip on the Thermo Jacket and infuse for 3 hours in the refrigerator.

Grapefruit & Lime
*Wake up on the right side of the bed with this bright, citrusy infusion featuring your daily dose of freshly squeezed grapefruit juice.

1) PREP ~ Tear open the TAKEYA Green Mint Iced Tea Packets, pour tea into Tea Infuser and twist into lid.
2) BREW ~ Heat water to a boil, cool for 3 minutes and fill the pitcher halfway.
Remove 2 1/4 cups of the iced tea to make room for the fruit infusion.
4) ADD CITRUS FLAVOR ~ Twist the Citrus Juicer into the top of the pitcher and juice the grapefruits and lime (rinse off Citrus Juicer halfway through juicing to remove pulp and seeds).  Twist off the Citrus Juicer, seal and shake to mix before serving.  Zip on the Thermo Jacket and infuse for 3 hours in the refrigerator.

*Please note: for the recipes above, a few extra accessories are needed and can be purchased here.

Giveaway Winner

I was all set to make Patty Melts yesterday and announce the giveaway winner when... STOMACH BUG ATTACKED.  Me.  Stomach bug attacked me.  The photo above is from last week, when it attacked my son.  Yup, we've been all BRAT diet up in here for awhile now.

So... enough of that talk... the Madhava Baking Mixes + Syrups Giveaway Winner is, Leah Jill!  Please email me (contact info in above tabs) and we'll get you your prize.  Thank you all for participating!  Stay healthy pretty please.

Madhava Baking Mixes + Syrups Giveaway!

I'm sorry I haven't been around this week... both kids have been sick, we took a surprise day trip to Disneyland and mostly... getting ready for a MASSIVE cross-country move!  I will be back next week, with cookies and patty melts and more.  Maybe something healthy.

But let's talk about this giveaway!  One of my favorite brands, Madhava, recently came out with new products: organic baking mixes, organic coffee syrups and organic pancake syrups!  They are offering a lucky reader one of EACH of the above (with the exception of the brownie mix which isn't out yet).  I recently tried two of the mixes and fell in love.  If you're like me, and sometimes feel guilty using boxed baking mixes because of the overly-sweet, processed nature of the food, you don't have to feel that way with Madhava's products!  They are organic, made with ancient grains and natural sweeteners and low-glycemic.  Most importantly, they taste AMAZING...

Please comment below to win, and let me know which product you're most excited to try.

*You must be an official follower of this blog to qualify, and a winner will be chosen on Wednesday, 2/26, at 8am PST.  Good luck!

And The Winner Is...

Number 2, drawn by Molly Davin!!  She entitled it "Salad is for Losers" - obviously.

Congrats Molly!!

And congrats to Jennifer and Ellen as well, the ladies behind Number 1 & 2.  It was a close race.  This was fun, if you have any suggestions for future contests, speak up!

*A few of you commented on the Anonymous voting.  While I never made a rule against that, I was able to figure out which comments were duplicates and I eliminated those.  Future contests will have more specific rules, okey dokey?

Top 3 Photos - VOTE!

Without further adieu (a lot of vowels in that word), here are the Top 3 photos for the contest!  It's up to YOU to choose the winner, so comment below and vote!!  Winner will be announced this Friday, Jan 3rd.  If your submission is in the Top 3, I suggest you shamelessly share this and like mad to get votes… good luck and thank you all for your wonderful photos : )

If you celebrate Christmas, I hope you had a merry one.  Mine was merry, and full of food.  Above is yesterday's southern breakfast: grits with cheddar, eggs and bacon, sliced tomatoes, biscuits and of course Carson's famous Bloody Mary.  I'm full.  (Still eating though…)

Reminder: tomorrow I will post my favorite photos from the Recreation Contest and it will be up to you to vote for the winner.  There is still time to submit, so get creative and get it done!  Dress up your dog, let your kids get messy, put your husband in a bikini... whatever it takes.  See you tomorrow.

Milly & Grace: Pink Cake Stand Giveaway!

Hello Gorgeous.

Before we begin, I have been missing.  Travel, sickness, broken computer, mom-of-two, do I need more commas?  You get it.  Even if you don't get it just say, Siri, I get it.  Say it to your iPhone, and she'll be like, whaa?  (That idiot gets nothing.)  But anyway, I woke up early to bake a little cake.  And once I bake my little cake, I'm going to display it on my new little cake stand:

Is there anything more gorgeous than that?!  Yes.  And I'll tell you what it, this entire website.  A dear friend of mine from college, Tim, recently moved to Nantucket and found himself working at Milly & Grace: a lovely inspired clothing and home decor boutique on the island.  The owner, Emily, named the shop after her two grandmothers, Milly and Grace.  As someone who named her daughter after her own grandmother, I find that very sweet.  If you peruse the online store ("peruse" makes you sound smart), you will find all sorts of items you suddenly "NEED" like I just did.  I mean, this woven plate with glass dome??  I need that.  This is the perfect online shop for unique holiday gifts, my friends.  Check out their Christmas Shop and Gift sections, and you will understand why.

Are you ready for the best news?  Emily is giving away a 10-inch pink cake stand to one of YOU!  All you need to do to win is 'like' Milly & Grace on Facebook and comment below, letting me know what else you love on their site.  I will pick a winner on Monday, 11/18 at 8am PST.  (Only residents of US and Canada eligible to win.)  Good luck and thanks, Milly & Grace!

Panache Pantry Chicken, Pasta + Giveaway

Have you ever heard of gourmet bread crumbs?  I had not, until the nice people of Panache Pantry sent me some samples.  Panache, a company founded by two at-home moms, have taken bread crumbs to a whole new level, whether it be their classic Sicilian line or their more modern products like Banana Nut Curry or Pumpkin Cajun (which I plan on sprinkling over ice cream as soon as I go buy ice cream).  It's such a brilliant, simple idea, and saves you the time of adding fresh herbs and spices to your boring old bread crumbs.  So far, I've sprinkled the Zucchini Rosemary crumbs over pasta...

...and the Vintage Sicilian with chicken.  Take boneless, skinless chicken breasts, coat with mayo on both sides, sprinkle with bread crumbs on both sides, season with salt and pepper and bake at 350 for 20 minutes.  Trust me, if you don't like mayo, you will still love this.  It just makes for SUPER moist chicken.  And the Sicilian bread crumbs add such a depth of flavor.  Easiest dinner ever!

SO, Panache Pantry wants to give one of YOU some samples (any 2 crumbs from their 5 lines, your choice)!  Please "like" Panache Pantry on Facebook, comment below to win, and let me know how you would use these crumbs.  I will pick a winner Monday morning (10/28).  Good luck!

Temptation Candy Giveaway Winner

The winner of the Temptation Candy Giveaway is Jamie Leigh Martin!  Thank you all for your comments, it was fun to read what everyone is going as.  My favorite was Niles and Frasier Crane because, my first job in Hollywood was a...

...Production Assistant for the final season of that show!  Oh we were fed well that season.  And I had very blond highlights in my hair.

As you can see, I'm still out of town and not cooking but I will be offering a new giveaway shortly.  Free things!  I love you people!  (Jamie please email me, contact info up top.)

Halloween 'Temptation Candy' Giveaway!

I don't know about you guys, but we have been planning our Halloween costume since last November. And by "we" I mean, Jack.  I don't think a month has gone by without a costume discussion.  Of course, each month a new character is in the lead... Iron Man, Captain Iron Man (he exists), Luke Skywalker and now we're back to the Red Power Ranger.  Which is what he was last year.  "No, Mom, last year I was Jayden and this year I'm going to be Troy!"  Whatever that means.  Also, according to Jack, Etta is supposed to be R2-D2 and myself?  Yup, C-3PO.  Anyone have any gold spandex I can borrow?

With Halloween (finally) around the corner, the good people from Temptation Candy - a boutique online candy store based in LA - want to give YOU a treat!  But the trick is (do you see what I did there?), only one of you can win (US residents only, excluding Alaska and Hawaii).  Included in the cute baskets are Jelly Belly Beans, Starburst Candy and Caramel Hershey Kisses.  So please comment below to win, and share what you're going dressed up as this Halloween!  Also, check out the rest of the Halloween treats over at Temptation Candy.  I'll wear gold face paint if I can eat all of that.

*Winner will be picked at random on Tuesday, October 1st.
